The patient is only 44 years old, but when she came to us she looked much older.
In her youth, she was a top sportswoman, but now she is at home and takes care of her family. She always had an excellent memory, but during the past few years she began to experience a significant absent-mindedness and constant fatigue and even exhaustion. She started to write a text message on her phone and forgot in the middle what she wanted to write. She was driving her children - who also participate in sports - to a game, but after fifty kilometers (31 miles), she had to stop because she felt she would not be able to arrive at the destination. It was as if she had a sort of a screen in her head, a curtain that prevented her from thinking clearly, and it was taking away her energy.
The patient underwent all kinds of tests, including a CT of the brain - she feared she had a tumor. The trouble is that a routine medical examination does not reveal the problem and even a CT scan does not get at it. Only a detailed testing of the hormone and neurotransmitter levels at the A2C Clinic brought an explanation of her problems.
"Most of the values had extremely low levels," Dr. Golková describes. "Including the female hormones which were on the climacteric level, although the onset of menopause surely hadn't arrived yet.
